Fast Track Decision Making.

COME UP WITH 3 IDEAS FOR ARTICLES YOU WOULD LIKE TO CREATE FOR THE ONLINE MAGAZINE.

IDEA 1
I have always been into music and when i leave university i hoping to combine my designs with music. An artist i have come accross is someone called Peter Saville who is a graphic designer born in manchester.

"Peter Saville designed many record sleeves for Factory Records artists, most notably for Joy Division and New Order."

For my first article i am going to look through the history of Peter Savilles work and look at how he started, how he got the placement with factory records and what work he did beyond factory records.
As a graphic designer and interested in a career with something similar this will give me a better understanding in the industry and help me for when i leave university.

Wikipedia have put Peter Saville's design career into 5 sections. To create a good article i will need to research each one of these topics, i will also look into factory records and how it has effected the music scene in manchester.

1 Early life

COME UP WITH 2 IDEAS FOR ADVERTISEMENTS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CREATE FOR THE ONLINE MAGAZINE

Im not quite sure if i have understood the section about adding an advert to appear in my magazine but i was thinking about promoting a poster business? and emailing them if it would be ok to promote there business as Peter Saville become very recognisable when he posted flyers all around London for "Suede’s new single Film Star".

IDEA 2

MADCHESTER

"As the 1980s drew to a close, a new energy arrived in Manchester fueled by the drug ecstasy. A new scene developed around The Haçienda night club (part of the Factory Records empire), creating what would become known as the Madchester scene, the main proponents being the Happy Mondays, The Inspiral Carpets, and The Stone Roses. The history of the Manchester music scene over this period was dramatised in Michael Winterbottom's 2002 film 24 Hour Party People."

My first article is about Peter Saville, but now i want to look at how all of this come about, looking at what they called MADCHESTER. In my opinion this is how punk/indie/rock/metal really hit the english music scene and because of this we now have amazing music :).

Advert

As i have used Peter Saville as my first atricle, i would like to see if there are any companies out there who sell prints/covers for his work. I would get in contact with the company and ask if i could promote there business by putting there company name on my advert.
I dont think this is combining both articles together as they are two completely different subjects but they do come together through music and thats how i would like my work to come across one day.

Idea 3

Student backs direct action against tuition fees

Recently there has been alot of protests through alot of cities including manchester. The reason the protests are going on is because tution fees are on the rise!!! this contradicts everything Britain's Liberal Democrats have said before the election promising to abolish tution fees. Also this would be a good thing to write about as i am a student and going through all this caos at the moment.

Advert

Whilst i was in the library today i got speaking to a guy called Richard Mayne and for his brief he was told to create a document and has chosen to do this on the student protests. I asked him if he had a company/business to do with this. Richard and his friends have created a business called 1fivesixproductions and i asked if i could use this for an advert on my magazine and he had no problems.

Richard also forwarded his brief over so i can get a clearer understand of what he is trying to create.

HND DOCUMENTARY DIRECTING 2010/11
Tutor: David Nolan – d.nolan@salford.ac.uk

Produce and direct a FIVE minute documentary on a subject of your choice. The piece must be of a campaigning nature – not a rant – on a subject you feel strongly about. Avoid 'studenty' issues – you have the whole world to choose from. It should have strong content, editorial, interviews and visuals and be produced to a professional standard. As well as being entertaining and informative, it should show how you've taken on board the techniques discussed during the module.
WORK TO BE HANDED IN:DVD Copy – make sure the item plays ... blank discs get zero.
A well-presented portfolio of supporting material showing how you produced the item. This should include:

The programme proposal – your pitch to convince the channel to commission your documentary – including a description of your idea and what you want to achieve.Research material
Release forms
Production diary and assignment sheets
Details of any images/footage/music used.
Script if appropriate
A comprehensive self-assessment of 500 words which should discuss and qualify the above and justify the decisions you have made. Deadline: 4pm Friday 14th of January 2011.
